Places We Love: Unforgettable Stops on Our International Family Travel Journey
While there were very few places we didn’t enjoy visiting during our year of international family travel, there were a handful that completely captured our hearts in a way we never expected. These are the destinations and attractions that left a lasting impression, the ones we still dream about and can’t wait to revisit.

Happy Elephant Home
An Unforgettable Family Travel Experience in Chiang Mai
When we planned our international family travel adventure and specifically our time in Thailand, we knew seeing elephants was a must. But just as important was making sure we visited an ethical sanctuary—one where the elephants are treated with care and respect. Happy Elephant Home in Chiang Mai did not disappoint!
This incredible sanctuary is home to a herd of rescued elephants, all saved from the tourist trade. From the moment we arrived, the experience was thoughtfully planned and immersive. We changed into traditional Karen clothing, prepared food for the elephants, and spent quality time feeding them. Then, we walked alongside them to the river, where we watched them bathe and play freely, followed by a mud spa session—an absolute highlight! What made it even better was that nothing felt forced. The elephants did what they wanted, when they wanted, and it was clear they were truly happy and well cared for.
The staff at Happy Elephant Home were amazing, but special shoutout to our guide, Apple—easily one of the most entertaining people we’ve ever met. Her enthusiasm (especially for Miss Thailand during the Miss Universe pageant!) was absolutely unmatched.
There are plenty of other ethical sanctuaries in Thailand, but if you’re looking for one, we can’t recommend Happy Elephant Home enough. A truly unforgettable experience! 🐘💛👍

Nepal
Nepal Hiking Team
And Our Guide Puru Lamsal
A Surprise Standout in Our International Family Travel Journey
Nepal was one of the most unforgettable parts of our year-long international family travel adventure. The stunning landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality made it a place we instantly fell in love with. While I’m not a hiker and was admittedly nervous about tackling the Everest Panorama Trek, our experience turned out to be one of the highlights of our journey, thanks to the incredible Nepal Hiking Team and our guide, Puru Lamsal.
Puru’s expertise, patience, and kindness put us at ease from day one. He ensured that everyone in our family was safe, comfortable, and well-prepared for each day’s trek. His deep knowledge of the region and genuine love for the mountains made the experience even more enriching. From breathtaking views of Everest and surrounding peaks to quiet moments in charming villages along the trail, every day felt like an adventure we’ll never forget.
Despite my initial nerves, the Everest Panorama Trek proved that you don’t need to be an expert hiker to explore Nepal’s beauty. With the right guidance and support, even the most challenging journeys become memorable experiences. Nepal not only pushed us out of our comfort zones but also brought us closer together as a family. It was a defining moment in our international family travel journey, and we are forever grateful for the memories we created there.
